About the Program
Global Studies in Education - South Korea is an Auburn University’s College of Education outreach program sponsored by Korean automotive companies located in East Alabama, USA. The program objectives are to help teachers and administrators in Alabama:
- increase knowledge of Korean culture and Korean educational systems;
- promote appreciation of diversity and global education; and
- develop skills and knowledge to teach Korean culture and the value of diversity to students.
History
Based on the strong need to provide cultural experience to educators, Dr. Suhyun Suh, associate professor in the college’s Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation, Counseling/School Psychology, initiated the project in 2011. AJIN USA President, Jung Ho Sea, shared the vision with Dr. Suh and provided a $51,500 gift to College of Education. AJIN USA is a metal stamping company that supplies parts for Kia and Hyundai from its Chambers County facility, reside in Lee and Chambers counties in Alabama. The gift along with support from the Office of University Outreach allowed 12 local teachers/administrators to learn Korean culture and visit Korea for 17days.
